Last updated: 9 June 2026

Welcome to Spalding News. By accessing or using this website you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree with them, please do not use the website.

1. About these Terms

These Terms govern your use of Spalding News ("we", "us", "our"), accessible at https://www.spaldingnews.co.uk (the "Website"). The Website is operated from the United Kingdom. You can contact us at news@spaldingnews.co.uk. These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy.

2. Acceptance and eligibility

By using the Website you confirm that you are at least 16 years old and that you have read and accept these Terms. If you are using the Website on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

3. The nature of our content

The Website is an entertainment and satire publication. Our articles, headlines, images, names and quotations are works of comedy and fiction. Nothing published on the Website is a statement of fact and none of it should be relied upon as accurate, truthful or as advice of any kind. Please read the "Parody and satire" section below, which forms an important part of these Terms.

4. Acceptable use

You agree that you will not:

  • use the Website in any way that breaches any applicable law or regulation of England and Wales, or any other jurisdiction from which you access it;
  • use the Website in any way that is unlawful, fraudulent or harmful, or for any unlawful or harmful purpose;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Website, the server on which it is stored, or any connected server, computer or database;
  • systematically extract, scrape or harvest data from the Website except as expressly permitted by us;
  • introduce viruses, malware or any other material that is malicious or technologically harmful; or
  • post, through comments or any other feature, content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, obscene, infringing of intellectual property, or that impersonates another person.

5. Your account

If you register for an account, you are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for all activity that takes place under your account. You must notify us promptly of any unauthorised use. We may suspend or close accounts that we reasonably believe have breached these Terms.

6. Comments and user contributions

You keep ownership of any comments or other material you submit ("Contributions"), but by submitting them you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, display, reproduce and moderate them in connection with operating the Website.

You are solely responsible for your Contributions and you confirm that they are your own, are accurate where presented as fact, and do not break the law or these Terms. We are under no obligation to publish any Contribution and may edit, refuse or remove any Contribution at our discretion, including content we consider unlawful or in breach of these Terms.

7. Intellectual property

Except for user Contributions and third-party material, all content on the Website including text, branding, logos, layout and graphics is owned by or licensed to us and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may share links to our pages and quote short extracts with clear attribution for the purposes of review, criticism, news reporting, quotation, caricature, parody or pastiche, as permitted by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Otherwise, you may not reproduce, distribute or commercially exploit any substantial part of the Website without our prior written permission.

8. Third-party links

The Website may contain links to third-party websites and services (including social media platforms). Those links are provided for convenience only; we have no control over and accept no responsibility for the content, policies or practices of any third-party site.

9. Disclaimers

The Website is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Because our content is satire and fiction, it is provided for entertainment purposes only and must not be relied upon as factual information or as legal, financial, medical, professional or other advice. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties that the Website will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, or that any content is accurate or complete.

10. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales.

Subject to the paragraph above, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any loss or damage whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise that is indirect or consequential, or that arises from your use of, or reliance on, any satirical or fictional content on the Website.

11. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify us against any reasonable losses, damages or costs we suffer arising out of your breach of these Terms or your Contributions to the Website.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when they were last revised. Your continued use of the Website after any change means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Parody and satire

This is a work of satire. Spalding News is a parody and satirical publication created for comedic purposes. All articles, headlines, names, characters, businesses, organisations, places, events and quotations are either entirely fictional or are used fictitiously and satirically. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, or to actual events or organisations, is either coincidental or used as obvious parody and caricature.

Nothing on the Website is intended to be, or should be understood as, a statement of fact. All content is presented as comment, opinion, parody, caricature and pastiche. As such, our content is protected by the right to freedom of expression under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, as given effect in domestic law by the Human Rights Act 1998; by the exception for caricature, parody and pastiche in section 30A of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988; and, where opinion is concerned, by the defence of honest opinion under the Defamation Act 2013.

If you genuinely believe a specific piece of content unfairly identifies you, or crosses the line from obvious satire into something defamatory or unlawful, please contact us at news@spaldingnews.co.uk and we will consider your concern promptly and in good faith.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms, their subject matter and their formation, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Website (including non-contractual disputes or claims), are governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales. You and we agree that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

15. Contact us

If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact us at news@spaldingnews.co.uk.
